ARVADA, CO – October 19, 2010 – Trippe & Company LLC (www.trippecompany.com), a local marketing agency, today announced the firm will conduct a seminar, hosted by Arvada Chamber of Commerce, to help business professionals create personal brands. “What Is a Personal Brand and How Can It Move Me Forward?” will be held on November 18 from 2:00-4:00 at Bread Winners, located at 7311 Grandview Avenue in Olde Town Arvada. The cost for attendance is $25 per person.

The seminar will help professional people understand the power of the personal branding and how it can propel someone to the top of their company or industry. Activities will include writing a branding statement and creating brand attributes, locating non-profits that fit your brand strategy and reflecting your brand through clothing, hair and makeup, speech and presentation. The seminar is being presented by Karla W. Trippe, president of Trippe & Company and a 25-year branding expert.

“Creating personal brands is an emerging strategy that is proven to help people move upward in their profession,” said Karla Trippe. “Often people can get stuck in a certain type of job or at a particular level. Our program shows how to break through by developing a personal brand that reflects a persona more suitable for the desired position.”

Trippe began building her branding knowledge when she worked at her first Denver ad agency on accounts such as American Express, Boeing and Red Robin. Since then, she has honed her expertise by creating brands for Symantec, Iomega, Hunter Douglas, Ask Jeeves, HP and others. During her career she learned about the power of the personal brand by watching executives such as Carly Fiorina hone their personal brands for professional success. Trippe has taken her expertise and built a personal branding practice, “Radiate,” as part of her larger marketing service. The Radiate practice works with individuals to achieve professional goals by developing personal brands. The agency’s individualized programs encompass the tools necessary to create an image that radiates success and can propel anyone to the top of their company or industry. The practice includes wardrobe analysis and styling, color analysis, presentation training, photography and styling, speaking programs, publicity, identity development and office decor.

To register for the seminar, contact info@trippecompany.com or call 970-389-3672. Attendance is limited, so please register early.

The shiny look with long, loose hair is an ode to ‘70’s dancing queens.

The other night was a big one for me as I attended the Sheryl Crow concert at Red Rocks. Having seen other shows, I was prepared for the “Sherylites” in their traditional garb of tank top with turquoise jewelry, boot cut jeans, boots and straw cowboy hat. But like all ladies of rock, Crow had a brand new look.

The dangling “love” sign over the stage made one remember the “J5” sign of long ago. And Crow’s opening ode to Motown while wearing skinny jeans, sequined jacket and low heeled boots made the vision complete. As I said to my friend, the only thing missing was the sequined glove.

Yes, Sheryl Crow is paying homage to the King of Pop on her latest tour and who better than one of MJ’s former back-up singers. But the look doesn’t harken back to Jacksons’ glory days; rather it is quite fashion forward in delivery. The sequined jacket (hers was silver) is everywhere. Doncaster showed a black version in its spring collection and Nordstrom is showing a gold one this fall. The shiny look is perfect with hair that is long, lose and flowing — an ode to ‘70’s dancing queens. And taking the boot to a flat heel gives the look a fairy quality rather than the hard edge of a stiletto heel.

Crow’s latest album may be “100 Miles from Memphis” but her style is groovy NYC.

Learn the basics of Internet Marketing.

ARVADA, CO – September 14, 2010 – Trippe & Company LLC (www.trippecompany.com), a local marketing agency, today announced the firm will conduct a seminar, hosted by Arvada Chamber of Commerce, to teach local businesses the basics of Internet Marketing. “Adwords, Facebook, Twitter and Blogs – What Is Internet Marketing and Which of These Tools Work Best for My Business?” will be held on Thursday, September 23 from 2:00-3:30 at Bread Winners, located at 7311 Grandview Avenue in Olde Town Arvada. The cost for attendance is $10 per person.

The seminar will provide an overview of Internet Marketing and explain the different tools currently available to businesses. Using real world examples, the seminar will demonstrate how different types of companies are using Internet Marketing to grow their business. The seminar, being presented by Karla W. Trippe, president of Trippe & Company, will include a Q&A session so attendees can ask questions specifically related to their businesses and discuss what Internet Marketing can and cannot do to help.

“One of our goals is to increase educational opportunities for our members,” said Dot Wright, Arvada Chamber of Commerce president. “Internet Marketing is a big trend we’re excited to bring in Trippe & Company to speak on this topic.”

Trippe is quite familiar with Internet Marketing having worked in technology for more than 25 years. Her agency, Trippe & Company was founded 12 years ago in San Francisco, CA during the dot com boom. Before starting her namesake agency, Trippe served in executive positions at Porter Novelli, White & Company (a division of BBDO) and Symantec Corporation as well as several startup companies. Trippe & Company launched a practice area focused on Social Media last year.

“As a marketing agency founded in the technology industry, we take a somewhat different view of Internet Marketing than other companies,” said Trippe. ”We understand that Internet Marketing has risen in popularity due to it tracking capabilities, something many marketing tools, like advertising, don’t offer as easily. So it’s easy to get caught up on the idea of Internet Marketing and forget about doing the basics well. We will make sure that attendees gain a basic understanding of marketing principles as well as how to successful deploy Internet Marketing campaigns.”

Trippe has her own favorite Internet Marketing tool – blogs – and has two of her own available for reading (http://www.trippecompany.com/marketing_mentor/ and http://www.trippecompany.com/what-we-do/radiate/). “Blogging is a wonderful way to talk about ideas and trends,” continued Trippe. “I do have a specific marketing reason for blogging and I’ll discuss that during the seminar.” To register for the seminar, contact info@trippecompany.com or the Arvada Chamber of Commerce at 303-424-0313.

WESTMINSTER, CO – August 31, 2010 – Trippe & Company LLC (www.trippecompany.com), a Denver-based marketing agency, today announced the company has repositioned and now has three practice areas to better serve its current clients and to take advantage of new opportunities. Trippe & Company’s new practice areas include Cultivate, which focuses on helping startup companies – particularly in the technology and green energy markets – break through to the next stage of growth by securing capital. The agency’s Escalate practice offers services for each department in an organization including finance, communications, marketing, sales and human resources. Within this practice area, Trippe & Company now offers investor relations to help public companies improve shareholder value. The agency’s third practice area is Radiate, which is designed to help individuals achieve professional goals by improving their personal brands.

“We took a long look at what companies needed and what agencies were offering,” said Trippe & Company president Karla Trippe. “We felt that agencies were becoming more tactical, particularly in the area of social media. Trippe & Company has always been known for its strategic thinking and network of funding partners. And so we organized the agency around our core strengths.”

To help the agency manage each practice area, Trippe & Company has added new team members: Robert Ferri and Anne Haggar. Trippe originally worked with Ferri at Copithorne & Bellows on the HP business. “Bob has an amazing background and never hesitates to share his knowledge with team members,” she said. Based in San Francisco, Ferri, founder of Robert Ferri Partners, has helped found, grow and finance a number of companies in the United States and Europe, including online securities brokers, trading and other transaction technology providers, chip manufactrers and enterprise solutions companies. Ferri has international experience in financial communications, having launched and headed media relations departments for The Nasdaq Stock Market and its parent organization, the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc., as well as Montgomery Securities, a prominent investment bank focused on growth companies.

Ferri, who has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, has a wide range of experience in politics and government. A frequent commentator in electronic and print media, he has been a guest lecturer at Harvard University and other institutions of higher education, as well as a speaker to business and civic organizations. Ferri serves on the U.S. Boards of Directors of Etherstack, Inc., a London-based wireless software company, and Minerva Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology licensing company based in the Bay Area of California. A member of the Dean’s Alumni Leadership Council of Harvard’s Kennedy School and the San Francisco Area Advisory Committee of the Center for Public Interest Careers at Harvard College, Ferri serves on the not-for-profit Boards of Directors of the Resource Center for the United Nations, the American Liver Foundation’s Northern California Chapter and the Presidio YMCA in San Francisco.

Haggar and Trippe have a long history together having worked on the consumer programs for Iomega’s Zip drive and the worldwide launch of the Click! product. “Anne has wonderful experience in working with management teams to reach financial goals, and this is service our clients – particularly our startup companies – really need. Her focus on identifying and driving new revenue opportunities makes her invaluable in identifying and capturing new business through sales channel expansion, including online venues, new tiers of partners, and strategic alliances,” added Trippe.

In addition to her revenue expertise, Haggar has extensive experience in building product portfolios to drive expansion with a strong focus on clearly differentiated product marketing, positioning market segmentation and product line extensions. She has launched major new technologies for global technology leaders Seagate, Hitachi, and Iomega. Most recently, Haggar launched the first green hard drive product line for Seagate and led the security marketing team as Seagate was the first hard drive company to enter the rapidly growing security market. At both Seagate and Hitachi, Haggar was charged with developing strategic alliances with major partners to bring new products and solutions to new business markets with added resources. Prior to these roles, Haggar headed marketing for Beta Systems, an enterprise software company who competed successfully against global giants via an innovative go-to-market strategy.

Haggar has a MBA from the University of Colorado/Denver and a BS in Business Administration from Colorado State University. She is the President and Chair of the Foundation Board of Excelsior Youth Center and a board member of Rocky Mountain Masters Ski Racing.

In other news, Trippe & Company announced the agency signed Strong Bear, LLC of Palisade, Colorado as a new client. This technology development company was founded to design and develop security software for use by all types of companies including the military. The agency is providing capitalization and sales assistance to help Strong Bear reach the government market.

There were a few trends that I spotted that were of interest. First was the flower in the hair. You may have seen this on Keri Russell and Mariska Hargitay. Wearing a flower in your hair is a timeless accessary (think Coco Chanel’s white camellia) and almost always works. Except in the case of poor Miss Hargitay. While she wore a lovely dress by Vera Wang, the combination of a hair flower and drop earrings was a fashion oops. Now, I love a great pair of dangling earrings and hers were probably lovely. It was just that my eye balls couldn’t stop moving between the dangle and the flower. Should I look here, or look there? Here? There? Well, you get the point.

Remember that accessories at your neck and above are designed to frame your face. Don’t distract from it and thus make people turn away.

I’m not sure if the fashion shows give an award for best neckline and sleeves but if so it should go Archie Panjabi, winner of the best supporting actress Emmy for her work on the wonderful Good Wife series. Miss Panjabi wore a beautiful black gown by Tadashi Shoji. What struck me immediately what the deep, rounded neckline — flattering on almost any woman of any age — and the soft, wrapped sleeves. For those of us who don’t have the ability to get Jennifer Aniston arms, sleeves can be a wonderful flaw fixer. However, the right sleeve length and fit is critical to slimming the upper arm. The draped arm on this Shoji dress was a dream and something every women should look for in any season.

I spent last year in contemplation as to where I wanted to take my agency. After more than 25 years of providing marketing strategy and programs to countless organizations, I had hit a bit of a wall. What was going to get me fired up, get me excited to come to work and make a difference?

After helping a friend put on her first caBI clothing show I realized that my creative juices just hadn’t been flowing. And so I embarked on a year of research, study and training in the area of personal styling. My goal was to find a way to create personal brands that could help anyone, particularly women, achieve professional goals.

And thus, today, I launch my newest practice, Radiate which encompasses all the tools necessary to create an image that radiates success and can propel anyone to the top of their company or industry.

“High Style” is a blog devoted to trends that help you radiate. Whether you are a client, a friend or just a fashion-forward professional, High Style will provide you with knowledge and insights necessary to building and finessing your personal brand.

As an accredited PR professional, I take my job very seriously.

My clients know that when they speak to the media or in a public forum, that honesty is a must. I recall an incident where a client was being interviewed by a local business reporter. Unfortunately, the client got a bit carried away and started touting the capabilities of a product that was not yet finished (nor was the capability yet proven possible). After much consideration and discussion among my staff, we determined that for the credibility of the reporter and the client that the story needed to be killed.

I fell on the sword that day and took my verbal beating from the reporter. He even went so far as to publish an unflattering editorial about me (name withheld) in that next issue.

I still agree with my decision, because, I am a PR professional. According to the Public Relations Society of America’s Code of Ethics we shall:

Be honest and accurate in all communications.

Act promptly to correct erroneous communications for which the member is responsible.

Investigate the truthfulness and accuracy of information released on behalf of those represented.

Reveal the sponsors for causes and interests represented.

Disclose financial interest (such as stock ownership) in a client’s organization.

Avoid deceptive practices.

Dana Perino, former Bush White House Press Secretary, was a keynote speaker at Denver’s annual PRSA conference in Denver last year. Her speech, (obviously written to benefit an unrevealed client), took place during the brutal health care fight in congress. When the opportunity came, I asked her to speak about how she, as a practioner and employee of one for the largest PR firms in the country, upholds our Code. Her response? A pathetic mumble of clients’ right to discuss their issues. I further asked her the important of truthfulness and accuracy. She again mumbled some answer about “what is the truth”. Really? Are we having a discussion about truthiness?

More recently, we had an incident of malfeasance when Fox News broke an erroneous story on USDA official Shirley Sherrod. Their misreporting of comments she made about a white farmer during a speech led to Sherrod’s hasty firing. Keith Olbermann’s news-making commentary on the Sherrod incident stated that “Fox News’s manipulation, is not just a story, not just on behalf of a political philosophy, [but] of a society”
After that, I just blew.

Fox News’ number #2 man is Roger Ailes, a Republican PR strategist. He, like Karl Rove, is a master at manipulating the media (note that I did not use the word “journalist”) Ailes’ constant rewriting of facts, not just for Fox viewers, but in an attempt to overcome public policy has become intolerable. I don’t want my profession to be looked upon as “designers of lies”.

It’s time for my profession to get fired up!

Jon Swartz – a topnotch technology reporter for USA Today writes the following:
“Tweets aren’t always sweet – sometimes they’re just “pointless babble.”

Actually, they are over 40% of the time, based on a study of 2,000 random tweets over two weeks by Pear Analytics, which released a report Monday. The researcher deemed 811 tweets as babble, compared with 751 (38%) as conversational, 174 (8%) as moderately interesting and 117 (6%) as self-promotional.

Spam accounted for only 4%, or 75, of the tweets.

The results surprised Pear researchers, who expected a preponderance of self-promotional tweets.
