Be true to yourself

I have watched the Oscars since I can remember. Like a lot of viewers, Oscar viewing has become more about the fashion on display during the E! pre show than the actual show. So, I read with interest about the new format the Academy was unveiling this year, which actually “marketed” me into watching the show.

From Hugh Jackman’s opening number you could see the change the producers of the academy were striving for – to be true to the art of movies. By going back to the source of what the Academy Awards is all about, the producers brought about a transformation that I saw unfold on my TV screen. You could see it in the response of the audience, the sincerity and depth of the acceptance speeches even through the emotions I experienced while watching.

As I viewed a show about entertainment actually become entertaining it reminded me of the importance of being true to oneself when marketing a company.

The success of marketing has much to do with truth. Being true to the brand, to the story you are trying to tell will always make the fundamental difference between success and failure.
